1. Speaker: Tom Gehrls, "Socialization of Rape"
Tom Gehrls (Sergeant, Campus Police) will explore the "Socialization of Rape" and the reality for women whether they know the assailant or not. Sponsored by the CSUF Women's Center. 1. Speaker: filmmaker Rhianne Bergado
CSUF alumnus Rhianne Bergado will speak about and screen excerpts from her body of film work, as well as discuss aspects of the production process.

April 10 (Thursday):
 
1. Poetry Reading: featuring Trangdai Tranguyen and Richard Jong
Trangdai Tranguyen is the author of If You Like, Mom, an acclaimed collection of poems celebrating mothers. Richard Jong is a lecturer of Asian American Studies at CSUF; his poetry has appeared in DisOrient, the Ground Up, and Anagram.

2. Speaker: Trangdai Tranguyen, "Vietnamese American Women"
Coinciding with her contribution to an upcoming SAGE Publications collection, CSUF history graduate student Trangdai Tranguyen will discuss her research on Vietnamese American women. Sponsored by the CSUF Center for Oral & Public History.

1. Student Workshops: University Leadership Conference
This year's conference will focus on the empowerment of all students to become the leaders they already are. Whether we know it or not, we have all, at one time or another, served as a leader, held a leadership position, or demonstrated leadership qualities. 1. Speaker: Elahe Amani, "Women's Rights in Post-Taliban Afghanistan"
Dr. Elahe Amani (Chair, Coalition of Women from Asia and the Middle East) will discuss the lack of women's human rights in post-Taliban Afghanistan. Women and girls are still being abused, harassed and threatened in Afghanistan, often by government troops and officials. Eye witness reports and human right organizations claim that outside Kabul life has not changed much for women and girls. Sponsored by the CSUF Women's Center.

Documentary, USA, 1994, by Lee Mun Wah, 90 min. A groundbreaking film about the state of race relations in America as seen through the eyes of eight men of various ethnic groups. (2nd feature: Everyone's Child. Zimbabwe, 1996, by Tsitsi Dangarembga, 85 min. The story of two orphaned children in Zimbabwe and their abrupt journey into a world of adult responsibility.) 1. Film: Two Lies
Fiction, USA, 1989, by Pam Tom, 30 min. Synopsis: Doris Chu, a recently divorced Chinese American woman, has plastic surgery to make her eyes rounder. From her teenage daughter Mei's perspective, her mother's two eyes equal two lies.  When the family journeys to a desert resort during Doris' recuperation, a series of revelations and bitter confrontations erupt.  This beautiful black and white drama is a poignant study of generational conflict and the struggle for identity in a world of hybrid cultures. Sponsored by the CSUF Women's Center & the Asian Pacific Islander Discussion Group.

No Man Is An Island. USA, 1962, by Richard Goldstone and John Monks Jr., starring Jeffrey Hunter and Marshall Thompson, 114 min. As the only American serviceman left on the island of Guam during the three years in which the Japanese controlled the surrounding seas, Tweed (Hunter) slowly but surely learns to survive with a hero's bravery and fortitude. Imua Tamuning Eagles. Documentary, Guam, 2003, by Vicente M. Diaz, Herman Crisostomo, and Michael P. Perez. This documentary traces the itinerary of a Guam football team against the backdrop of US military colonialism. Discussion by Dr. Michael P. Perez and Vicente M. Diaz.
